Abstract. Investigated in this text are functions and purposes of pension system. The emphasis is put on the analysis of the most important features of regulation sphere of pension system. Mechanisms of pension system were listed. Effectiveness of pensions was considered. The article is focused on providing the essence of what pension system is and what should it do.
