Abstract. In the article the urgent problem of environmental pollution is considered. It also deals with the questions of protecting the environment from the harmful effects of different types of energy appeared. Widespread contaminants formed from the work of thermal power plants such as fly ash, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are analysed. Effective methods and treatment technologies for dealing with emissions of power plants running on heavy fuels such as gaseous components of sulfur and organic compounds dangerous to the biosphere are determined.
